Finding the structure in a story, and the life in a text.
Estella Todisco is a theatre director working across contemporary drama, comedy, classic repertoire and new writing. She is completing an MA in Theatre Direction at the University of East Anglia, and is particularly interested in collaborative approaches to developing text with writers and actors.
She began in documentary television, working with independent production companies on programmes for BBC Two, Channel 4 and National Geographic. That work sharpened her instinct for finding structure in complex, non-linear material. She later worked in education before returning to formal theatre training.
Her productions at Stamford Arts Centre include My Mother Said I Never Should, The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The 39 Steps, which played to sold-out houses. In 2026 she directed Lauren Sudworth’s new play Watershed at the Lighthouse Festival, UEA. It has since been selected for the 15 Minutes of Frame competition at the Gene Frankel Theatre, New York.
She also assisted director Tom Fox on Treasure Island at The Key Theatre, Peterborough.
She is currently working with writers on new plays, including Life Class with Cathy Mellor and Sex, Then Death with Lauren Sudworth.
